I think you are talking about refuting a fact that you have discovered to be absolutely false. If so this is how you let the thread know that there is incorrect information in the thread.
You do this by **absolutely being 100% sure** that the information is wrong and have sources to back it up then you leave a "refute fact" comment.
Make sure to leave the correct information in a polite manner and a source indicating where the proof can be found that the information in question is actually incorrect. These refute fact comments should be reserved for only when you are 100% sure. Below is screen shot showing where you can find the "refute fact" comment button.

How do you officially refute an answer?
I came across an answer that has misrepresented the source and mentioned that in the comment section. I know there is a way to officially refute the answer but I'm having trouble finding it.

I can't find any sources to actually answer the question which is one reason why I checked their source.
So, if I go to the source that they listed, and the facts are different, is that "**absolutely being 100% sure**"?
