I cash out once a month. I'm lucky enough to pull in well over M$40 per month (the minimum to cash out), so I just wait until the very last day of the month. Then payment is usually sent out by the 15th. So I only have to wait a little more than two weeks for payment from the previous month.
I think you'll find a lot of us cash out every month. We're not much for squirreling it away here, seeing as a lot of us make enough money to really make this a regular salary.
Personally, I feel very comfortable with the transparency of this site regarding how much money we're earning. Not only is this information available elsewhere on the web, but it's also pretty motivating to see what others make and how far I can stretch if I really try.
Mahalo figures usually show the TOTAL accumulated lifetime earnings. That's what you'll see in other peoples' profiles, and in the leaderboards. But in a recent thread, they did publish September's earnings.

Firstly until you have a balance of M$40 then you can't request a payment at all..
Secondly, you can only request 1 payment per month
And Finally, your payment has to be requested during this month for a payment next month. If you request a payment this month you won't get the cash till the 15th of next month,
So it makes sense to request your payment on the 30/31st of the month if you have a balance of more that M$40 in your account.
I think the earnings that you can see from other members are total, as they don't reset when a payment is requested

I have no problem with others seeing what has been requested/paid. That same information is available on other places/lists already, so no big secrets there. Plus, as you say, it shows the potential of this site as a money maker for participants who are serious about it.
The 'earnings' they show are the amounts that were cashed by users. If they haven't cashed in a while, those numbers might really add up. It doesn't reflect total lifetime earnings, and I don't think there is an updated list of those figures on the site. (There is a list of earnings, but that is not updated frequently).
Funnily, I wouldn't even know exactly how much I've earned at this site, but I expect it to be close, or over M$1,000!
Edit: The amounts shown on a person's profile page are totals.
The 'Tips Received' and 'Tips Given' do not reset. The balance, and the amounts reported by Mike are not lifetime amounts though.

As others have said, the earnings numbers shown on user pages that others can see don't reset, so those are lifetime numbers.

I actually feel happy when I saw my name listed there though I already know about it. It's my first payout actually that's why I'm so happy about it. ^^ The ones listed there were the amount they requested for that particular month. Once a member requested for the payment, the amount you requested will be deducted from your Mahalo Dollars account. I requested the whole amount last September so I started from $0 again.
I think you asked this because there are some people who cashed out $2000+. Inspiring right? ^^ If you'll work hard in Mahalo, it's not possible to earn that much. :

And while I have no doubt that I won't do that, Its always good to give yourself a little breathing room, and don't make yourself feel like you don't have anything left within your account to play with.
Also (like others had mentioned) You may want to use the extra mahalo dollars for tipping questions, voting them interesting or tipping helpful users comments.
Flexibility and option is goooooooood.

How do you decide when to request payment?
I have been here a relatively short time and am loving it. I was curious as to how long others will wait to request payment. Also I have noticed that Mahalo shows the earnings of others. How do you feel about that? Personally, I like it because it shows me the potential of continuing to work hard here. And one more thing. When they show the earnings of other members, Is that a lifetime or since the last payment requested? Just curious.

• I too wish i was lucky enough to earn a real salary here. but I don't . I try to be diligent and constant but over the last couple of weeks, it seems to me that everything has slowed down.

My policy is pretty simple: If I reached over M$40 before the end of the month, I cash out on the last day of that month. That way, I can keep track of what I earn each month, and keep the amount on Mahalo within limits. I have no problem with others seeing what has been requested/paid. That same information is available on other places/lists already, so no big secrets there. Plus, as you say, it shows the potential of this site as a money maker for participants who are serious about it.

For me, last day of the month, or a day or 2 before. Depends on how much I have and how much I'm getting in from something shortly (tasks, BA on a tip question, etc). Even then I usually don't cash the entire amount out: I leave a few dollars in as a "buffer" to get me started for the next month.

There's little advantage to keeping a large balance in your Mahalo account, beyond what you want to be able to fund questions and other tips. Accordingly, I'd suggest requesting payout on the last day or two of any month in which your balance exceeds the M$40 minimum, leaving the level of M$ in your Mahalo account you want to have for tips, and cashing out everything else. As others have said, the earnings numbers shown on user pages that others can see don't reset, so those are lifetime numbers.

It's best to request for your payment every last week of the month before the 30th. The last time I requested my money was last September before the 30th and received my payment on October. If you want to get your monthly payment, then you can claim your money every last week of the month for you to receive them the month after. But you would need at least $40 to claim. I actually feel happy when I saw my name listed there though I already know about it. It's my first payout actually that's why I'm so happy about it. ^^ The ones listed there were the amount they requested for that particular month. For me its slightly different than maybe some of the others who have answered this question. From now forward I think I will probably be watching my tip balance very carefully and possibly leaving some mahalo dollars in my account incase next month I don't quite reach 40$. And while I have no doubt that I won't do that, Its always good to give yourself a little breathing room, and don't make yourself feel like you don't have anything left within your account to play with.
