while that may sound like a straightforward question, it depends really on which search term you want to be #1 for.

the term how to paint easter eggs, like you have above, gives the results for any combination of the words and has 929,000 other competing pages. the same term in quotes gives only 126,000 competing pages.

you currently rank #8 for the first and #3 for the second, with another mahalo page #4.

it shouldn't be too hard to get you higher in the ranking with great seo, but it could change a bit when the easter season rolls around. big sites with more weight at google could beat you out if they offer an article on how to paint easter eggs.

if i were you, instead of concentrating on being #1 for one search term, i'd use a few search terms that are related and sprinkle them throughout your page. this will do a couple of things...

1. it will help to show you are really a site about easter eggs, which should give you more weight for your main term.
2.. google in particular looks for theme related pages
3. you might find a better term that gives you more quality traffic--quantity is not everything. 10 people who click and buy is better than 100 people who drop by for 2 seconds and leave

and if you are trying to increase your revenue... it is about getting them to click on the ads. use the terms people are actually searching on. "color easter eggs" and "coloring easter eggs" are both related to your topic, but don't use exactly the same keywords.

interesting too, that they come up in search statistics even in july while "how to paint easter eggs" does not.

all of that being said, i've looked at your page and you have a liberal sprinkling of paint easter eggs and variations of the words in close proximity. the exact term "how to paint easter eggs" is only used twice, however, and it being the term you seem to be going for, i would think if you put it again somewhere near the bottom of the page it would help. make sure it flows with your text, though.

and by bottom i mean toward the end of what you can do. you can't control what mahalo has on there, but you can know how the spiders see your text... by that i mean that the search engines do not see the page the way you do. each column is read top to bottom before moving to the next. so even though physically the right column is higher because of the ads to the left, it is seen only after the left column.

so the first paragraph in the left column that has your keyword phrase in it is seen as near the top of the page, and the top of the right column, which also has your keyword phrase in it is seen as somewhere in the middle of the page.

i'd add a text box to the right column and leave it at the bottom where mahalo automatically places it and put something in that box containing the phrase "how to paint easter eggs"

then i'd go back and make sure all three instances of your keyword phrase, which is also your page title, had inlinks by putting brackets around that phrase. (can't show the square brackets here the way they should look but use the [ brackets--two on each side of the text you are inlinking)

after that, it is a matter of getting incoming links. every week make sure you get some more incoming links, and then next year, i'd ask on the chat here for some others to social bookmark you as well.

incoming links can be blogs, static links on other sites--art sites or folk art sites might be a great place, or social bookmarking sites.

vary the text for the link sometimes, but your main anchor text that you want people to use is "how to paint easter eggs"

get links coming in using that exact term and it should give you a boost.

but being #8 out of almost a million sites is nothing to sneeze at. great job!
