You've been here a lot longer (and been much more involved), but here is my understanding of how it works.

Any Mahalo member may claim one Rush Week How-to task per week. They will build the claimed page, and that page will be reviewed and critiqued. The page will either be accepted (with or without requested edits) or rejected (if the requisite sections have not been filled out or if the page is so poorly done that it would require re-writing). The process of claiming and producing a Rush Week How-to might result in the member being invited to join the How-to Team.

As for other How-to tasks, it is my understanding that only How-to team members may claim those tasks. The pages which they produce are still reviewed and critiqued, accepted or rejected by a member of the QC team or a staff member.

The opportunity to be invited to join the How-to team is available every week through Rush Week Hot-to tasks, so at a minimum, any Mahalo member may claim one How-to task per week.

It was unfair to choose no best answer
This is a yes/no. The ans garnered helpful votes from 4 Mahaloans, incl the questioner. I think that Best Answer should ultimately be awarded, tip forgiven (don't impact the questioner). Given the questioner's explanation of the $ glitch assoc with this ?, I understand his initial decision.

That's a great answer, not sure why he chose "No Best Answer" - I went ahead and sent you a tip

The system charged me $2 for for a $1 question. I reported the problem.

I selected the option too pay for the question. The system reported that it would cost $1, but the actual deduction on the account was $2. I selected "No Best Answer" to reverse the transaction.

Thank you, @jeffhoard for the tip and the vote - I appreciate it. Thank you to everyone else that voted it as a helpful answerer, including @davepamn, @buddawiggi, and @soundboy. I'm sorry that there was a glitch @davepamn, and I understand your reason for the "No Best Answer" vote to reverse the transaction. Given the number of questions which you ask, and if this were a "global" problem, I can understand why you would need to follow this strategy (it could wipe out a positive balance pretty quickly). Fortunately, it seems the tech team here seems very attentive to solving problems.
