Page views. Ads not only collect money when you click them, but also by page impressions. The more views your page gets the money you earn. Otherwise it's difficult to calculate since the ads are run by Google. For example a page impression on the term "Auto Insurance" will be worth more then a page impression on the term "Yogurt" simply because the consumer reading about auto insurance is more likely to be spending money, but now I'm probably making it more confusing.

If you are new to this, again, it's still way to early to tell how much money can be earned on these pages, best thing for now would be to continue building your pages, they have the potential of being timeless web archives with just the right amount of care, if you care for your pages, the traffic will come.
