When we launched Mahalo Answers we offered over our member base five Mahalo dollars each to ask questions in the system (but not to take out). About 2-3,000 folks took us up on the offer I think.
This was basically a way for us to jump start the system instead of spending money on marketing. $10-15k doesn't actually buy that many clicks or visits, but a five dollar coupon does. :-)
Also, 24 hours after someone signs up I have a 'bot that asks them what they think about Mahalo Answers so far. That bot has a M$1 tip. About 20-50 folks a day respond to that every day. We have 150-300 folks signup each day, so I think that's about 10-30% response rate. Seems the response rate is increasing.
When folks get their yellow belt @sara has a bot which automatically congratulates them and asks them about their experiences in the system. She gets around 5-10 responses a day for this email which also has a Mahalo Dollar on it.
So, if you signup and get to yellow belt you'll get two Mahalo Dollars for answering those questions.
this is our way of engaging the members and getting feedback from them. Hopefully we get 1,000 folks a day answering these types of questions! :-)

Either way, I might have to sign out and sign back in to see if this will happen to me :)

When I signed in a few weeks ago I received 5 Mahalo Dollars by email. I wanted to know if everyone received the same amount, and if some of the members with high levels received more than 5 M$ so far

• Thanks Jason. This way I understand more about this email I received. Also I did not know about this extra M$1 when you sign up and get new belt. I will then try to get my yellow bet asap.

I personally have no idea what you are talking about. In the e-mail, what exactly did it say was the reasoning behind receiving the $5? Are you sure you didn't just happen to sign in just around the time you were selected for a $5 Best Answer? Either way, I might have to sign out and sign back in to see if this will happen to me :)

Huh! Well then I guess consider yourself lucky..my guess is that this a randomized sort of thing, so feel fortunate that you were one of the 'chosen ones'!
