I don't think mahalo is in a hurry to be sold. I do however believe that as the site grows and becomes more popular, its appeal to the 'big dogs' will grow and grow. Jason should focus on running his business for himself and make it as successfull as he possibly can. If he is approached in the future with an offer his decision will be his alone. Many people who run start ups that are later bought up by the big companies intended on that being the outcome. My advice is to run Mahalo the way the owners see fit until they cannot handle the workload anymore. Then if the site grows to big, sell it before it suffers under the strain, then move onto a new venture.
Asker's rating:
This is really a great business model. Majority of the content for Q&A is funded by the users themselves thus by increasing the site's worth. Anything can happen in the future.

I don't think Jason is in such a need for selling Mahalo to Microsoft. If there is anything to happen like that in future, the news would be available in the Front Page of Mahalo.

But in my point of view, Jason working hard to bring this site to this position would not like simple handing over Mahalo to Bill Gates. :)

As Future is unpredictable, Mahalo could become a Major Search Engine like Google or Yahoo, or sometimes could become the next generation of Wikipedia. At that time, there will be a lot of competition to buy Mahalo, and I think there is a possibility of Mahalo being bought by MS or Google.

"Future is Unpredictable" - :)

I believe this is just a rumor, I see no point in selling Mahalo. This site is better off, with the current owners. Jason knows better than to sell the site to Google or another internet giant. If this site ever gets sold, I will have to stop visiting. I don't like helping the big sites, I would rather stick with the underdogs. Most people think it's cooler to play with the average kids than to hang around the popular kids.

I also beleive this site might soon become a giant itself, since it's a friendly, community based search engine/wikipedia/yahoo answers type of site. And know twitter became a huge application to the site. Whoever said a site becomes better after it gets own by a big corporation anyway?

This site is currently worth- $4,617,335.61

When will it happen - Hopefully Never

Will Microsoft buy Mahalo? I don't know. Well, my advice as a small business owner. is to figure what your business is worth to you over its lifetime. Then TRIPLE or QUINTUPLE it! They'll likely offer you half of what you ask. :)
