do mongols m.c. members (or any M.C.) wear raccoon tails on their patched vests?

I'm an independent biker that wears a raccoon tail on my vest, recently I was told that this was an M.C. symbol of membership or support.

It's definitely not The Mongols, The Hells Angels, the Outlaws or the Banditos. Could be a splinter group or a smaller local club, but not a requirement for your patch in those big clubs. Check out the Wiki link - it was pretty cool reading.

That is because I was not done answering it. As noted by Irish it could be a local club. however, lacking the information on the region it's almost impossible to determine. I should say it would take hours of research to try and scale down without that information. I can confirm it's not the Angels or the Outlaws I have had dealings with both and am friends with several Angels. Just so you know they don't like each other and that is mostly a territory dispute that spilled over into other things. With biker gangs it's all about the bottom rocker. The Banditos are thugs and criminals really hard core bikers and if you ever run into one with a 1% on this jacket don't mess with him he will kill you. No I'm not kidding. Scar face was an enforcer for the Banditos and a 1% elite. If you see the 1% patch walk away respectfully. There was an instance where he shot his childhood friend because they got into a dispute over a scar face poster that scar face had stolen from his childhood friends, friends house. He took the poster because scar face was the name the Banditos gave him. Needless to say his childhood friend insulted him in front of another Banditos at this drunken gathering and then left. Scar face then followed him beat him and shot his child hood friend. He is currently in prison. But, that is the mindset of the Banditos.

Oh, and the mongols just lost the right to wear their trademark insignia. It was a recent court ruling... see here...

I found this article which makes it appear that the raccoon tail is a black biker gang symbol.

"Rat bikes," a perverse alternative in the mode of cycle as identity extension, are often oil caked and corroded, assembled from mismatched parts, with elaborate use of coat hanger wire and steel alloy cans for patch; rat bikes may also be decorated with assemblages of found objects-antlers, turtle shells, jingle bells, pieces of vintage Chevy, raccoon tails, shopping carts, and whatever.

Not what you want but interesting all the same.

I think I have it narrowed down to one possibility...

The East Bay Dragon MC. I found a reference to raccoon tails in this book.

I am sure from here you can do some independent research and come to a more solid conclusion. Good luck and remember "Ride hard or stay home."
