I think that Mahalo is going to be used for consulting on a regular basis, and that there will be a lot of companies taking advantage of it, for various reasons. The user base here is very good, and as more people recognize the value in that, I think more business will shift from professional consultants into Mahalo, when appropriate. This web site offers a reasonable alternative for industry.
The amount of tips will always influence the quality of the answers, so there is definitely an incentive to offer large tips for certain questions, and larger tips will impact the quality of the responses, as people put more time and more effort into their answers.
I definitely think it is the start of something big. It's enabling the community to get involved directly with one another, and that is going to be profitable for everyone, as far as information and money. We all benefit from this
resource. This is a really exciting project. I'm very grateful to those behind it, Jason, and the rest of the team. I think this will truly be a revolutionary way to share ideas, and perform research.
I watched an interview Jason did where he talked about content, and how across the industry it seemed everyone was getting paid, except the people who provided the content. Somehow we all were more than happy to generate revenue with our information, our pictures, our designs, our videos, our music, in exchange for free hosting. These large companies capitalized on this fact, and made fortunes off of it's user base, through advertising, using their content. Mahalo has shown how unfair that system truly was, and has given us all an opportunity to contribute, and an incentive to do so to the best of our ability. It's success is our success.

The fact that Jason Calacanis is behind this project really helps it out.
To get more people coming to Mahalo Answers more big money questions will have to show up. The buzz needs to get outside of the Mahalo/Calacanis followers to make this place BIG!

Did you know @budgallant made a M$100 tip today!??! Biggest question won to date on Mahalo!
@budgallant made $100 answering a question about strippers (sort of):
http://www.mahalo.com/answers/tv/how-do-i-book-the-stripper-method-girls-on-a-nationally-broadcast-tv-or-radio-show-to-promote-their-new-dvd
What's the second most profitable questioned asked to date?
Do you think we will see more $50-$100 questions on Mahalo Answers?!?!?! is this the start of something big?!?!!?

yeah, but that hasn't been given yet--it could be rescinded. however, that would be very unfair if the person did!

It's the start of something, but I don't know if it's big. When something new starts there is "hopefully" a big buzz around it. The fact that Jason Calacanis is behind this project really helps it out.

I agree with that. Seems like we've gotten passed the "Jason Nation" already. A lot of the folks who are here are finding out about it from other places besides my blog.
Also, we are going to get a certain percentage of traffic from Mahalo.com and other search engines. I hope we get some of those folks to participate.

I strongly support the ability to add advanced search and filter criteria for questions both open and closed. Especially tip value. IMO, the most unique and appealing aspect of this site is the economy it set up, which trades knowledge and effort for currency. How else can a large tip offer, indicating an important question in this economy, get the attention and associated value that it deserves?

some consulting questions could be paid more, e.g my question about Internet marketing plan, in case it was not just a MA test, should be paid more than 50$ because it's not question that could easily be found on Google, but a question that requires certain amount of experience in that area

question in that case is, if I ask something that I pay 50$ for and that ppl who answer dont want to be seen, will there be an option to remain answers private, while question is available to everyone?
