Fun contest... thank-you for posting it! If this was just a "shirt" contest rather than a t-shirt contest, I would enter a mockup of a real collared Hawaiian shirt. Not one of those cheesy science teacher flowered version that Hawaiians make fun of people for but rather a dark wood tiki inspired version. My goal would be to create something that you really might see on a beach in Hawaii.

My entries:

This is a simple take on Mahalo's connection to the Hawaiian word. The simple flower, gradient and logo could be easily adjusted for multiple colors of shirts.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2452/3825580227_b21c86fc50.jpg

This is a little more of a trade show shirt. However, poking fun at large companies (especially Microsoft and Google) is fun all year round.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3521/3826379510_3c075ed6da.jpg

Another bit of fun, this shirt takes a well known generic slogan and drives home the message through the logo placement. The message of being "large and in charge" speaks to the quantity of results.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2502/3826379326_caab961790.jpg

Understated and classy was what I was going for with this. Again, the color of the Hawaiian flower can be easily adjusted for color variations. It would be cool if there were Purple, Brown and Black versions of this one.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2463/3825579853_aef9903eb4.jpg

I'm not entirely satisfied with this one. I was trying to play off of the 5 question words: who, what, when, where, why and how. I tied "where" into pointing people to Mahalo.

@everyone! Thank-you very much for your feedback! I really appreciate it. If I'm lucky enough to win, I'll email 5 people who vote my submission helpful (random pick) and ask if I can send them one of the free shirts. I'll even pay for shipping!

@Drmatt: Most of my shirts are centered around Answers. However, with the large flower print shirts, I was really trying to get something understated, classy and importantly something that I would wear. Since the 2 people in the unique MA header don't really convey questions or answers, I decided to shy away from them and instead use the powerful Mahalo logo.

Sounds interesting!

Here are some original designs of mine. I "borrowed" the Mahalo logo for draft design purposes. As an artist, I did not feel quite right to just "steal and put up here" your Mahalo people artwork cartoon characters. Though, they certainly could be incorporated into a version of the designs below.

Pick one or all, whatever works for you! There's one for the guys, one for the gals, and a generic one for the whole team.

Slight modifications can be made by me (as the designer) for formatting purposes at Mahalo's request. Mahalo staff is welcomed to email with request for printable, higher quality file formats.

Who Knows? and the back would say Mahalo Knows ! Using the logo on the back.

I think simplicity works best. You need something catchy. So, I picked the obvious one, "Where is the best place to get answers?"

I'm open to your feedback! Hope this helps!

Thank you, Mahalo!

Thanks @Bunnyphuphu I think that simplicity is good, but there needs to be good words on it. The words are the most important, then the picture. I could see you putting a bunny on yours.

I think your content is great, but they seem a little too busy to me. I think with a website t-shirt, you just want to draw people's attention just enough so that they'll remember it and google it.

People want it simple, but the shirt needs a graphic. Just showing Mahalo on it is not a good idea, it's not really catchy, and it seems more like an advertisement. People want something catchy, and content is catchy!

Yes, I agree it needs a graphic. I just find SO many words on a shirt to be unnecessary and unattractive. I'd prefer one nice graphic and a few words that get the point across.

I like the original Mahalo logo and I think it should be one of the 1st shirts available. There could be variations but I would like to see the official logo on a shirt 1st.

Here's an example. I used the Mahalo logo, just added a .com so people know it's a website.

http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2591/m1concept.png

I also started thinking of some catch phases such as:

"It's like Wikipedia but better"

"You've got questions. We've got answers, and pages, and tasks."

"It means "Thank You" in Hawaiian"

I like easeboy's concept about having a question and answer because it represents the website. Keep in mind, printing on 2 side will be more costly than just printing on the front.

I agree that printing on one side will be cheaper, but I don't think it's such a big restriction. Remember, these are t-shirts to be sold. So if it costs a bit more, but the design is better, then the extra cost can be passed on to the "consumer". That said, I think your design should be one of the options.

Beyond this contest, I think Jason should have more than one design available in the Mahalo store!

I didn't do to much craziness because the more stuff you add the more expensive it gets.

I like how you used the water and islands at the bottom. That would be great on a shirt, but finding a place that can print shirts like that will be a challenge.

Radioshack is still in business, yes I am surprised too. Actaully they are in the news because they announced that they are changing their name to "The Shack". Seriously.

@soundboy,
I don't think it would be that difficult to find a printer for that, though it would costs a bit more than a plain T. Perhaps they could reduce a few of the features like the gradients in the sun.

Also, I added a "plain" version as an option above.

I'm a little late to the game, I have no design ideas but I have a great idea...

On each question there could be a T-Shirt Logo, you click on it, and that question gets put on a T-Shirt.

Fark.com does it with their headlines, just click the T-Shirt button..

http://www.flickr.com/photos/33749589@N07/3826423391/

Then you are taken to a T-Shirt creator with your headline.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/33749589@N07/3827227950/

Mahalo could do that with questions, simply add some obvious Mahalo branding, perhaps a logo and some text on the back that says "Find the Answer on Mahalo.com/answers" voila!

CNN and Reddit are other websites that do this with headlines.

I know I'm late to the game, but I wanted to throw in my two fashion cents. :)

I think the shirt needs to be simple, with just enough words/info to get the point across. Busy shirts are not only unattractive, but don't serve the intended purpose. This is a design I quickly made up on Zazzle that would be about $20. I would definitely wear it!

Instantly, I thought that this design reminds me a bit of Askville, and now I realize why: Their official motto is: "Ask...Answer...Meet...Play". Very similar. So great idea, but maybe we just need to change it up a bit?

(my dorky Askville t-shirt photo -
on the back it just says "beta" in small vertical lettering)

Yeah, I wasn't 100% happy with the wording, but I couldn't think of anything I liked better. I wouldn't change it because of Askville, though. It's not exactly a household name, and I doubt that bit is trademarked.

Tell me what you guys think about it. A surfboard could be added next to it, and other things like a whale.
