Are you finding the large number of questions from ConunumdrumLand problematic? Any ideas for how to handle them better?

I've got a few problems...

- There are a lot of them, but not many that I'd want to answer, so it's adding clutter

- A lot of them sound like made-up problems rather than things people really want help with, which changes the flavor of Mahalo

- The rare times when I feel I want to comment, I can't sign in my Mahalo id! I tried, but it didn't work. Got some error about API keys.

Any suggestions on how to handle these things better?

I've forwarded your feedback on the log-in issue to our development team. Clicking on the "Sign in with your Mahalo account" button should be working...I've tested it myself just now and it worked fine. But we'll try to figure out what went wrong in your situation.

It's true that Conundrum Wines wants us to focus some of our audience on a different kind of question than you'd normally see on MA. They asked us to present our users with "conundrums" - difficult to manage situations, imponderables, ethical and moral dilemmas, stuff like that. We thought these kinds of conversations could be interesting, and we thought that, by tipping M$2 for them, we'd encourage our users to try them out and contribute.

If these kinds of questions and discussions aren't for you, I understand. That's totally okay. You are correct that it isn't the exact same kind of questions we've always featured. (Mahalo Answers questions tend to be less anecdotal, more research-intensive and more fact-based.)

I'd hope there are still traditional questions out there on Mahalo Answers for you to explore, and we certainly haven't shut down other kinds of questions from being asked. Put a tip on a question and it'll still stay on the front page for a while.

Not to mention that, if we successfully grow ConundrumLand into a site with its own community (our goal with this project), we won't be promoting it so heavily on our own site, and it will be a tremendous boon to Mahalo Answers more generally - flooding more questions, users, money and mass attention into the system. Which is good for everyone.

Just some stuff to think about. I appreciate your feedback.

Hi @lon I like the Conundrum questions. I do have an issue that I found today though. I have two Conundrum accounts. One I made in August around the 25th. with all my Conundrum activity on it with the same user name as here (buddawiggi) and another I found today when I signed into Conundrum via my Mahalo account and it has no activity on it and it is named ~ buddawiggi2.

What should I do?

@lon I think real dilemmas might be quite interesting to discuss, but a lot of them seem to so artificial that it seems like they're just made up for the sake of something to ask. Like this:

> Should I buy my girlfriend the dress she wants a couple sizes too small so that she'll lose weight?

A proposal that is so far beyond the realms of sanity, that you've gotta wonder if the person who asked it has ever actually had a girlriend! :)

I'll try the Mahalo log-in again. It's a bit of a bummer that we can't just answer on Mahalo and have the answer appear on their site as well.

Extremely. They're better than the twitter question dumps, but they constantly force decent questions off the grid so they can't be found or answered.

I have noticed that Mahalo is working to promote Conundrum, and hey... that's okay.

I also noticed that they are importing quite a few questions over at $2 a pop.
(they don't show up on your Mahalo profile ((yes, my accounts are merged)) so how are you going to get paid?)

There are lots of little bugs I've noticed this weekend, so I'll just zip them over in an email.

But besides the bugs... yes, you're right. There are quite a few that seem a little on the artificial side.

I'm not sure what you want to accomplish with this question. In my opinion, it would be better to have a smaller amount of these questions rotate through the main page, but that would entail changing how the main page is currently set up.

I just try to stay afloat with the ebb and flow that is Mahalo.

Your Mahalo Dollars should credit directly from ConundrumLand when you get a best answer. If you've received a Best Answer win and have not received the funds, please send me the thread and the details to lonharris@mahalo.com and I'll look into it right away!

This "problem" will get worse as more companies adopt the Mahalo Answers interface. In general, having more people add questions into Mahalo Answers is a good thing - there is more of a variety of questions coming in. The type of questions that come in from these Mahalo Answers implementors will depend on the type of demographics for the site. For example, if the Mahalo Answers, is wrapped in a car site, then most of the questions will be from car afficionados - this is obvious. But the reason I bring this up is that some of the questions that certain demographics ask will not be your cup of tea but it will be the type of questions that the next person might enjoy answering.

The best solution for this onslaught of questions is filtering and personalization of the Mahalo Answers homepage. I don't think Mahalo has this quite right, yet. Actually, it would be great if I don't have to log into Mahalo, but Mahalo would know what are the type of questions I usually answer and they can email those questions to me : )

I agree there have been too many Conundrum questions as of late. Some of them are interesting, but some you can tell are just made up for the sake of posting a question.

I'm wondering how long this Conundrum promotion will be running? I know Lon said that the goal is to make it sustainable as it's own community, so maybe that will determine how long it stays around for.

If it benefits the community, then I think it is ok for now.
