Good question. In the past there have been topics which I wanted but found that they were already claimed. And currently it is often the case where you search for a new topic hoping the page is available yet someone has it already.
I think it would be great if Mahalo set up a way to transfer or request claimed pages easily. Say you are a die hard fan of some topic but it is already claimed. And say the person who has it doesn't really care much about it. The 1st person could put in a request showing interest in the page. If the manager is willing to let it go, then it could be transferred.

Does Mahalo have some way of seeing if a manager is no longer active and not updating a page that you might want? I think that would be a great idea. Some pages I see that I would like to have claimed have an owner but the only updates for months come from staff updates.

I definitely agree - but I think that manager's that don't update will of course lose their page(s) after 90 days. (said in Mahalo Tutorials).

I think it needs to be more then just no updates,. It is important that the pages be informative and useful. I think we should be able to report pages that are not being managed well and get them reviewed by staff, and if the owner does not appropriately update the page, they should lose it. I'll give you an example, the BBQ page has essentially nothing on it. It's been managed sinced 8/12/2009, there aren't even any links to other mahalo pages like barbecue. Mahalo would be better off just redirecting bbq to barbecue.
