While I cannot speak for the company, I would think "the more the merrier" theory would apply here. Remembering articles covering the Mahalo 2.0 launch, opening the page building to users will allow the database of pages scale from several hundred thousand to several million.
However, as previous users have said, pages must be unique and unbiased. If someone creates a page on GM, when there is a full and blown-out page on General Motors, the GM page would likely be redirected to the General Motors page. Duplicate pages means more to update in the long run as well as the chance of users being sent to possibly incomplete entries when another well-rounded entry is available.
Neutrality is another aspect, as Mahalo pages should be in a news or encyclopedia tone. The good side of this is however that pages that may be biased can be edited. Rather than writing about why you do or don't believe in Santa Claus, I would think a page on the spirit or "following" of Santa Claus would be acceptable, providing all varying opinions are presented and referenced.
Common sense also applies here, as pages of defamatory, violent or illegal nature, as in pages promoting illegal activities or discriminating against a certain group or demographic, I would think may be inappropriate.

A page shouldn't replicate another page - it just causes clutter. Having a page for (for example) a Wild Prairie Rose and another for an Arkansas Rose wouldn't make sense, as they're the same thing. Putting tags into the article for the first page decreases clutter and improves searchability and quality of the site.
Having a page about your own life probably isn't the most valuable thing on Mahalo, unless your name is Britney Spears or Sidney Crosby.

Regarding your Santa Claus comment, Mahalo Pages should be unbiased and not opinionated at all. That type of page/content is what Twitter and blogs are for. :)
Content-wise, I'd say that anything appropriate goes. If a mainstream 6pm newcast would show it, so will Mahalo. (At least thats what I've found... but I don't work at Mahalo so I can't confirm.)

Work closely with your Mahalo mentor. Mahalo owns the pages and wants to use your labor to assist them maintain the page for a small fee. Mahalo may not be concern about content on low volume pages, but on a high volume page like "General Motors" where three or four Mahalo employees are building the page they don't want you to disrupt the content or framework of the page so cooperative work on that page is critical for you to understand.

Are there any limits on what a page can be about?
I mean, can I make a page about Washkeshay, my neighbor's Akita dog if I want to (in theory), or how to count gumballs, or why I personally don't believe in Santa Claus? Are pages sometimes disabled or removed after they are created, due to subject or content?

• There were a lot of good suggestions and answers to my question, even some funny ones.. but if I came to this page again to get a quick answer and refresh my take on this, I'd look for your answer to re-read, so yours is the one I picked.

I believe you can make a page about almost anything, as long as it is not inappropriate. I mean if you make a page about something to obscure then people might not view it too much. To my knowledge you can search for a page, such as how to count gumballs on the Mahalo.com part of the search bar and if it's already chosen, then claim the page if it is not already claim but simply clicking claim page. If not you can create it about anything. I think, logically though it would just be wise not to create a page to inappropriate, crude, or offensive. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any problem. Just be sure to cite sources on the page. They do not like when you do not cite information.

I believe you can make a page about anything you'd like. Your neighbors dog could have a page, but pretty much no one will visit it, so you won't earn too much M$ from it. But hey, your neighbors might be interested in finding out more about their dog! ;-) Regarding your Santa Claus comment, Mahalo Pages should be unbiased and not opinionated at all. The best way to find all pages about a topic now is to do a google site search for the term you're considering. This has the added bonus of picking up pages you can list as reated pages in your text, and use to populate the related pages section. So all coupon pages would come up by searching
site:mahalo.com coupon
That way you could see what we already have for coupon pages. Some may be in need of a manager, as well!

Mahalo Dollars are the currency of Mahalo Answers.
Each Mahalo Dollar costs $1.
Once you earn more than 40 Mahalo Dollars, you can request to be paid via PayPal. Each Mahalo Dollar is currently worth $0.75 when paid out via PayPal. Learn More
For example if you type "Coupons for Groceries" into the search box, it does not find the "Grocery Coupons" page, and instead asks you if you want to create a new one.
You have to dig around quite a lot sometimes before you can find the page that's already there which you'd be duplicating.
