You MIGHT type in Apple Fruit to modify your search...and when you did Mahalo's page would be at the top of page two. That's pretty good ranking, and with some page promotion it might get moved up to page one.

Answered Question

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
Apples and oranges?
I just asked a very popular question about apples. I thought I'd see what the Mahalo page was like and who has it. But, it's not about apples! How do I create a page that is actually about apples?
Apples were around long before that electronics company; apples are in the dictionary! Heck, apples are in the bible! If someone looks for information about an apple, they are not going to query "apple (fruit)" !
The apple page should be for real apples! The computer company should have some other page.
Please advise!

I agree with you completely that the Apple page for computers should have a different name. You could name the page "Apples" because there is no Mahalo page titles "Apples". That would work perfectly considering the page would be on all the varieties of apples and not just one particular kind of apple.

Mahalo is not a dictionary-- its organized around terms that people will search. When you search for Apple on Google, the entire page comes up as the company. So, if you DID type in apple to Google...and got a page about the computer and wanted to actually find info about the fruit--what would you do? You MIGHT type in Apple Fruit to modify your search...and when you did Mahalo's page would be at the top of page two. That's pretty good ranking, and with some page promotion it might get moved up to page one.

Thanks for the tip. I have now spotted and claimed the "apple fruit" page. I still think it is outrageous that a modern trademark should supplant a word thousands of years old. I doubt many people will type "apple fruit". I didn't.
