Well, the Mac Pro is the most expandable Mac out there - and probably, multiple screens notwithstanding, the best computer for your purposes.
My opinion: First buy the Pro, then invest half of your remaining cash in beefing it up as your primary computer and the rest in cheap Minis. (Or the tablet that they supposedly will come out with.)

If you need a server, get a server. If you need a workstation, get a workstation. Don't buy a bunch of them and try to string them together, unless you're building a processing array for encoding video.
If you're doing this to build geek cred, then do whatever you want, document every micro-step of the process (with pictures: ss or it didn't happen), and post it on your blog. Then tweet it and pimp it.

What is the best computer?
Tricking question here:
Is it best to invest in something like a mac pro, or buy the money equivalent in small pc's like mac minis, or eee box pc's and put them all in parallel?
My inner self tells me that something like a mac pro is good but it's more convenient and no so expandable than a parallel installation where you can always add another computer to the grid. And it's more fun too.
So what do you think?

I think you're over-engineering your IT infrastructure. If you need a server, get a server. If you need a workstation, get a workstation. Don't buy a bunch of them and try to string them together, unless you're building a processing array for encoding video.

Well I would like to build and array to process video as I have quite a big dvd collection (over 700), but you're also right is saying that I would like to pimp up my geek cred a bit too, it's always something I wanted to try.

The best computer is one that suits the needs and maybe some of the wants of the end user without having to take out a second mortgage.. . It should have expandability and sufficient storage and memory for your applications as well as internet/ethernet hardware and software applications. If you are into games, video, or graphics intense applications your going to need a good video card with on board video memory. If you are just wanting to pimp out your spreadsheets and have some screaming text documents on your word processor...You could go with just about anything out of the box from wal mart.

Well, as you can see, he wants to get a Mac... you pretty much described every Mac in existence right there.
He wants to be a power user - Parallels, games, HandBrake, the whole nine yards - and as such, I recommend the Pro.
