What is portrayed in Hollywood as "love" is most often an infatuation. Characteristic of this warm fuzzy feeling is a sense of excitement when you are about to see the person next, and an awful lot of transference. You feel connected, and especially understood by that certain someone.
Mature love feels less fuzzy, and is what is more often valued. Mature love is when you care for the other person intimately. The depth of caring enables you to see past simple to authentic.
For example, when I discovered my former husband was an addict, because I loved him I decided I couldn't enable him. That didn't match his definition of Love at ALL! In his drug addicted stupor he complained I was "judging him" "shaming" him "blaming" him. Believe me, he tried six ways to Sunday to manipulate me in to taking him back into our warm safe house. I love him, I want him clean more than I want him back, so I hung tough.
He's still not clean.
