Either say no you don't or say you look really good but I like that other dress on you even more. Just give her a good compliment. I mean a lot if they would say something like that I would just joke and say yup it does because I am constantly telling the girl she looks beautiful. They just want to know that you think they are pretty despite girls' own doubts.

Because they know they probably look fat. They just want someone to tell them they don't so if someone judges them they have someone to blame. That person to blame would be you.

yes it is a confusing question. You are supposed to say "no, of course not. you look fabulous." and mean it.
trouble is, if it is a lie, then eventually you will be branded as a liar
if you tell the truth, they will say you are mean
so, without being there, I'd take a wild guess and give my opinion: "It is not a fair question for someone to ask someone."
If she wants your approval, show her in other ways. :)

Of course is a trick question. Answer must be "you look great". Remember the point is getting some validation, assurance.

Well first, your use of the word "chicks" shows no respect for women. It leads me to think that you don't want to know the actual answer. You just want to assume they're trying to set men up by asking it.
Most women ask this because they want reassurance. Is that wrong?

I don't think it is a trick question... I think we just want to hear that you see us through different eyes then we see ourselves. And to be honest most of you do... you love us for lots of reasons besides how we look in a particular pair of pants. When you look through eyes of love... all you will see is beauty.

its not that we really want to know if we are fat in something, but we wanna know what you think of us in the outfit.
Women are not straight forward and wont ask a direct question, you have to learn to read between the lines. When she asks you if she looks fat in something, what she reallt wants to hear you say is that she looks beautiful, or she is looking for some sort of compliment without having to tell you tell pay her a compliment.

I do not know why many women ask, "Do I look fat in this?" I never ask that question. I know when I wear something and I look fat. I look at myself in the mirror and if I look fat, I just change my clothes or get in a diet. I can see if I look fat and I do not like anybody saying to me "Yes, you look fat", even if I look fat.
Because they want you to say that they don't look fat. However, they will think you are lying. If you are lying, it would not be advisable to come clean and say, "Well, you know, you do look a little bit fat." She will be mad. I do not advise lying, but a better answer would be to tell her that she looks great in whatever she wears. If this is also a lie, I don't know what to tell you. Yes, it is a trick question. Ask her how she feels in what she is wearing. Tell her she needs to be happy with her body before anyone else can appreciate it.
Yes, it is a trick question, because in this time it is your character that is being shown to the chick. Being honest can bring bad results, such as loosing points with her. And being more friendly can make you get her approval. But, it is not that simple. When you say honestly, you have bigger chance of scoring with her later. But if you tell her a lie, she can be upset with you later. I think the best thing to do is to answer honestly, but say also that you are not so good about fashion, and this is a task that can be better made by someone else.
I don't think that is necessarily true. I've not asked that specific question, but similar things (is this dress too short?) etc. When we ask we are ACTUALLY looking for an answer, or at least I am. If it's too short, I want to know, so I don't go out looking bad! If I were to ask if I looked fat it's because I'm not sure and I want someone else to judge it so I know whether to change!
It's not always fishing for compliments.
