twilight is the drop and rise of the sun.... so twilight when vamps are safe to go out and the next twilight when the sun comes up is time to hide

"Twilight" in the movie specifies the end the of the day and the start of a new one as explained by Edward to Bella. During the prom, Bella asked Edward to bite her and make her a vampire during twilight time which Edward noted and and asked if she really wanted it to be the "twilight" of her life.

In relation to vampires in general, twilight is the time when they are safe from the sun and walk amongst humans until the next twilight.

But according to Stephenie Meyer, they came up with "Twilight" after brainstorming through emails for a week, and "twilight" was on the list of "words with atmosphere".
