That's a good question. If your significant other forgives you for whatever you're feeling guilty about, that helps, but the memory lasts forever, barring brain damage or death.

guilt fades when you forgive yourself. Period. Your loved one can tell you "it's okay," a million times, but unless you're ready to hear it and begin the healing process, you're going to feel guilty.
Depending on what it is you've done (which you didn't say) that can take a very short time (like if you got caught checking some young hottie out) or it can take a very LONG time (like being with said hottie in your marital bed).
Regardless, unless you can admit your shortcoming and try actively to make amends inside yourself as well as outside, guilt will not fade.
