Well,
Start by saying you need some breathing room, and that the two of you should get some alone time for a while.
If after this time you still want to break up, It'll be easier. You can just say that through your time alone you realized not having to deal with (insert reasons you are breaking up) really had a benefecial effect on you. Be honest, and meet face to face like the first answer said, if you decide to break up. The other person won't like it whatever you do, but you will feel better about yourself if you be honest and concise.

Taking this time puts you into a free position to help yourself get away from him and think.

Please make it short and sweet.....and oh ya to the point. Also, no cliches either. Do it sooner than later and not over the phone...that is super lame.

Not by text. Nothing meets face to face.

2. Post it on twitter
3. Call his favorite radio station during the time you know he listens and say his first and last name and say its over
4.text him
5. set all his belongings out side your house/apt in a garbage bag

Think about how you would want someone to break the news to you. It's also a good idea to take into consideration how long you have been together, why you are splitting up, and how the person will take the news. As important as it may be to be gentle, it's also important to be honest. Do not give the person that you are breaking up with false hopes. If they begin to weep, beg, and make promises to change, don't try to comfort him. This may seem mean but it's worse to let him think there is a chance of working things out if there isn't. It may also help him to save face and move on. Another great rule of thumb, don't break up over the phone, in a text or email. Also, if you think that the situation could turn violent, don't put yourself at risk. Good luck!
