I have a college taster day tommorow, I am worried about being with people I don't know?
This is complicated, I get nervous in big groups. I used to be shy but I'm alot better now. I'm more confident but I still don't really fit in. This bit it hard to explain-but I don't know who I should talk to, when I should talk to them and what I should say. I get confused about this and no one seems to be able to tell me. However if the opposite happens and someone I don't know starts a convo with me I can talk to them fine without getting nervous.I like people to come to me rather than Viceversa, is this ok? (Part of me problem is that the people I have been hanging round with for the last 5 years are really mean to me. This is why I want to make new friends. I really want to get it right! There are 2 people in my tutor group that I know from school. I sort of like them, I sometimes talk to them but we don't have much in common. Do you think it's ok to go up to a strange group of people and say something like "Hi what school are you guys from? Have you had your prom yet?" thanks xx :)

Just be yourself. I found in high school I hung with others like me. In college I went for the opposite, not on purpose just happened. Far out example but say you wear a suit normally then try for the opposite maybe someone in goth.....
only an example.....

In high school every one HAS to be there. In college people WANT to be there.
You will always find the high and mighty who do not want a new friend. that is ok, let them go.

And the first few you meet may not be life long friends.
But it is a start.
If you are more comfortable use a nickname and no last name.
Or Hi I am B.J. etc.
Just give out what you are comfortable saying.

And by the by we have all done it! Just takes time!
And GOOD LUCK!

I think that there will probably be people like you who are also worried about the taster day tomorrow who are worried that won't know who to talk to so maybe a good idea would be to see if you can spot somebody on themselves and go up to them and try and start a friendly conversation :)
