I've tried Yahoo Personals in the past. I think anyone has a chance of meeting someone decent there. You're really taking a chance because so many cheaters do place ads and act as if they are single. However, there are good honest people there. Just like it takes a lot of time to find someone in the real world, it takes awhile to weed through people online. My recommendation is that you communicate with people on the site first, then if they seem okay talk to them on the phone a few times, then if things are going well meet at a public place like a coffee shop. Don't skip any steps, or else you will be sorry!

I know people who have. It can work well if you are careful, honest, talk on a the phone a lot before meeting, know who you are, what you want, and then meet in a public place. Take it easy. Go slow. Good luck!
