Going to NYC for the weekend, taking my girlfriend. What are some ideas for romantic things to do?

I am going to NYC Friday through Sunday and my girlfriend is coming with me. I would like to do something romantic at least one or two of the nights there. I would like it to be a surprise but I don't know NYC at all, only been once. What are some romantic things to do there this time of year? Also where are some good places to eat?

Friday or Sat night: Go see a Broadway show and have a super after. We enjoyed the drama AUGUST Osage County

Saturday 11AM: Go to Chinatown and have some amazing dim sum at Golden Unicorn. Trust Jason, this place is amazing, fun, tasty and affordable.

After Dim Sum at 1pm: Dress warm and walk a couple of block down to the Brooklyn Bridge and to the half way mark. Hold hands, take a couple of photos and walk back.

Walk up through NoLita (north of little Italy)--always nice. Lots of little stores funky stores on Elizabeth Street http://newyork.citysearch.com/roundup/37749

If you want to roll like me pick up a shirt for yourself at Seize Sur Vingt
243 Elizabeth St. Not cheap, but not crazy and you'll love the shirt for a long time.

If you walk over the Brooklyn Bridge at some point consider having the most amazing pizza of your life at Patsy Grimaldi's Pizzeria which in right under the bridge on the brooklyn side. http://www.grimaldis.com/

Frank Sinatra on the jukebox and the best pizza you've ever had.
http://www.grimaldis.com/images/making_it.gif

Gramercy Tavern is wildly expensive and amazing--except if you eat in the cafe up front with is affordable and amazing! :-) Even if you just go to get hot cider and dessert go there and eat at the bar. You could spend $20-30 on two hot chocolates and a dessert and have the most amazing romantic time. 42 E 20th St, New York, NY 10003

Don't be intimated by the fact that this is one of the five best restaurants in New York City. Walk in like you own the joint and tell them you're having a drink at the bar.

Ice skating at Rockefeller Center or Wollman Rink... so romantic.

Pastis is one of my old haunts... great french cafe. Gets noisy, crowded and full of life--like a bistro should be. http://www.pastisny.com/

I recommend checking out the ice skating scene: http://gonyc.about.com/od/iceskatinginnyc/Ice_Skating_in_New_York_City.htm

Also, pretty much everywhere in Times Square, 7th ave around 47th st, is nice to eat at.

Have you considered a broadway show or going up the empire state building? Both of those can be pretty expensive. I just found out the empire state building trip is actually just under $50.

Let me know if you want me to elaborate.

I highly recommend you get a metro card that will let you go for as long as you want in the day. That way you can go anywhere in NYC on a whim.

You should take her to the Top of the Rock, which is the observation deck at the top of Rockefeller Center. The view is absolutely breathtaking. I recommend going at night, if possible. They are open until 11pm. Be sure to get your picture taken while on deck to capture the moment!

http://gonyc.about.com/od/attractionslandmarks/p/top_of_the_rock.htm

Rockefeller Center also has famous ice skating rink, tours of the center and NBC studios, and lots of other fun stuff.
http://www.rockefellercenter.com/index.php/section/2#/2/2/-1/14/

After you leave Rockefeller Center, you could hire a bicycle cab to drive you down broadway through the middle of times square at night. It's amazing.

Or consider taking a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park instead. Sure, it's touristy, but I think everyone should do it at least once.

As for places to eat, there are SO many great choices. Is there a specific type of food that you guys like best? If so, I may be able to recommend something.
In general, Park Avenue Winter is incredible.
http://parkavenyc.com/winter/
Union Square Cafe is also really good.

The best thing I've ever done in New York is go to the Metropolitan Opera. It was amazing. If you're a student you can get student rush tickets at a huge discount. If not, it's expensive but well worth it.
La Boheme is this Saturday. http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/season/production.aspx?id=10014
And you can always check their schedules.
Here's the info for the student tickets: http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/about/education/programsdiscounts/content.aspx?id=4156
Schedule: http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/season/index.aspx?nav=top

The first question is what is the budget, there are two different ways to see NYC. Also Has she been to NYC before that's also good to know, some people would be more interested to see the bright lights of the big city in contrast to the more niche places.
