The theme and reoccurring question of Lost is fate vs destiny. Can one control his or her fate? Do the decisions we make change our destiny?
From the start ...
Plane Crashes. Survivors learn to live without the luxuries that they're accustomed to. Survivors live in fear of a mysterious island monster and "The Others". Early on Dr. Jack Shepard is asked to lead the Survivors with his analytical nature while John Locke regularly contradicts Jack with spiritual decisions.
The Others are a group of people who have lived and worked on the island for a long time. The Others, led by Benjamin Linus occupy the buildings and "hatches" that were previously occupied by a group called "The Darma Initiative".
The Survivors of the plane crash strive to understand how The Others are involved with the mysteries of the Island while trying to get off the Island to return home.
The island itself is a mystery and it appears that people including The Others and a former member of the Darma Initiative named Charles Whitmore would like complete and singular control of the island.
Eventually, a helicopter and boat find the Island. Only 6 of the original Survivors find their way off of the Island back to civilization.
3 years after being rescued, the leader of the Others, Ben visits the Survivors and persuades them that they need to come back to the Island or everyone on the Island will die.
The Survivors, Ben and a few seemingly innocent bystanders board a plane that will intersect where the Island is in the hope that they will be returned to the Island.

I need the briefest possible summary of the plot to date of LOST without leaving anything important out.
I am looking for either a summary or an outline that includes all of the crucial events of LOST up to and including last night's episodes. The winner will the summary that is the shortest but at the same time the most complete and will be decided by Mahalo's LOST fans.
Please avoid speculation or spoilers for future events on the show.

They landed on a bit time machine. Then they went down a hatch and turned it on. Then a few of them got away from the island and landed in the present. One of them died in the present, but he's alive in the past (on island). One of the guys in the present wants to take the dead body back to the past, to the island, which will probably cause a tear in the space time continuum. SPOILER ALERT: That guy will probably find a way to go back further in time and stop their plane from ever landing on the big time machine in the first place. The End.

"Then they went down a hatch and turned it on."
When they "went down a hatch" they actually turned the "time machine" off. Every 108 minutes the island would move back in time 108 minutes. When they didn't press the button, the Island didn't skip back in time like it had been for years. That's when all this crazy time stuff started to happen :)

There was a three hour cruise. The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. The fearless crew found an island, and they managed to create their own little civilization. Often, they nearly find a way to get off the island, but Gilligan always manages to screw it up.

The survivors(known as the Oceanic 6) and the other people on the plane are on the island, although they are unaware of each other, and Ben is currently unconscious.
Isn't Dharma spelt...umm... Dharma?
(Well it is when referring to the Eastern philisophical concept, but maybe I just saw what I expected to see, and it was different in Lost.)
