In general, it hardly gets below freezing. Importantly, there is little rain, rarely hail, and almost never snow (once in 10 years). In the 13 years I've lived in the L.A. area, it has almost never gotten colder than would require a coat, gloves, and long pants.
However, there have been some rare cold fronts in the past couple of years that have brought temperatures closer to 20 degrees at night for a short period of time (about a week). Wind chill is not usually an issue except during the Santa Anas in the fall, although cold fronts have not typically occurred during those time periods.

There are many microclimates inside of Los Angeles. Santa Monica is 10 degrees cooler than the Valley or Downtown for example.

50 is really the coldest it gets... during the day expect 55-65 depending where in Los Angeles you are. Don't be surprised, however, if it hits 70/80--it happens! There are many microclimates inside of Los Angeles. Santa Monica is 10 degrees cooler than the Valley or Downtown for example.
