Looking to build my own arcade game system, do you have easy to follow step by step instructions?

I'm in the US, I have an old computer and screen that I'd like to transform to an old stand up MAME arcade game system. Have you done it? where can I buy parts in the US? do you have good step by step instructions I could follow? Thanks!
Tip for best answer: M$3.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Good luck on this crazy adventure! I tried to build one during the winter holidays but ended up just making an arcade controller for my PC/Play station 3. Below are some of the best sites that i've found for building your project.

For the actual cabinet, you might want to check these links:
text tutorial: http://chris.polymathic.net/cabinet/index.shtml
video tutorial: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/12/27/how-to-build-a-mame-cabinet-a-video-in-5-parts/

For the controls, you will definitely want to purchase the pieces from lizardlickamusements, I have done great business with them. Their shipping is great and the parts are very high quality.

Most of the information for arcade stick building, feel free to visit the shoryuken forums. It's a great and helpful community that will help you. http://forums.shoryuken.com

Below is a picture of the arcade stick I built. that is a tupperware container.

Thanks for this response, it provides some good information but it doesn't seem to help me actually build the system. Good info either way thanks!

I looked into this years ago but opted not to pursue it.

This site has a great article detailing how the author did it:

Nice, this will definitely help me find where to purchase some of the hardware and how to program my PC to boot up the MAME emulator right away.
