Looking for editorial assistance with a science fiction manuscript
I'm not looking for grammar assistance. I want to make this into a great novel, with characters you care about and a plot and theme that fascinate you. I'll have detailed questions and requests for examples after the end.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My only work as a writer is through standard schooling, and with free lance writing on the internet. It is not that impressive but I still feel I could be a great help to you. I am good with character building and even better with dialogue and subtleties
My best and most widely available work would be here on mahalo, so you can ask others around here if they think I am good enough. I just recently wrote a Sci Fi short story for @cheapgamer here is the link:

My answer is second to last.
The last thing that makes me confident I could help you greatly is my ability to know exactly why I do or do not like something. I will never say simply "that's good" or "that's bad" it is not in my nature. Every opinion I have has a very detailed explanation, especially when it comes to literature. I have been hired for odd jobs like this one before and have always left the person satisfied, I have written essays, business plans, and done all sorts of proofreading. I am very versatile with my writing skills, if I must say so myself.
Also I proofread and occasionally write for this website.

M$One of my best friends / honorary sister is a proofreader with years of experience, a sharp eye, and a love of Sci-Fi.
My wife, a Nanowrimo winner, has been writing for as long as she could remember she became quite popular in fan fiction but eventually left it behind to work on several projects including a Sci-Fi and Fantasy novel.
Another very close friend is working with publishers for her first YA novel after successfully writing for Grumble Magazine and Whitewolf . . .
Now I bet you are wondering why I am creating a super team instead of focusing on myself. That is simple, a small team could give you the benefit of multiple perspectives. With modern tech and the internet it would be easy to create a functional group through google docs or yahoo groups to look at and suggest edits for you. Now this was just an example as I am not sure how available my personal super team is, but I encourage you to create your own.
You will find a very strong group of creative writers on Mahalo and by mining the writing challenges you could find people with a style that will compliment your own.

M$@cheapgamer = Mahalo sci fi expert.
Look no further, this team idea is pretty brilliant. Most any situation in life is better with multiple opinions as opposed to just one individual opinion.
The Superhero question I won over other very strong posts.

A quick short story of mine . .
************************************
I figured it was just a trick of the light. There I was sitting in a field looking up at the stars, then I saw it a bright light that flew in lazy circles.
A plane no that doesn't seem right, a firefly, that must be it and all this darkness must be messing with my perspective. It then flew down into the tree line, I thought that I heard a hum as it did. As I began to wonder about the noise a sizable bug zipped passed my face. The noise must have been the bug, but for a moment I swore it was something . . .
I was left to my thoughts for a few minutes when I heard her.
"It looks like you found my thinking spot." An attractive woman stepped out of the woods, I couldn't see her very well but I guessed she was twenty something based on her height and voice.
"I guess so. Do you need it? I am about to leave."
"Bummer, I could actually use some company."
"Oh I can stick around for a bit."
"Cool, I'm Eve"
"Nice to meet you I'm Matt. That's an unusual name."
"Is it? I figured it would be popular, I read it somewhere."
I could almost hear her grin.
"Let me turn on a light." I clicked on the camp light next to me and was able to see her more clearly, she was smiling, but it was a sweet smile as opposed to the wisecracking grin I expected. She was about twenty with short cropped blond hair, she wore new jeans and a tee shirt with a simple drawn UFO. "Cute shirt."
"Thanks I like it, it's a conversation starter"
"Really?"
"Yea now I can ask if you believe in UFOs without coming out of left field. . . Do you?"
"Kind of, I mean they have to be out there I believe, but if they had the technology to go faster than light I imagine they could take over the planet pretty easily. If they had come here I bet they would've done that. Steven Hawking compared an alien contact to Columbus coming to America, which was not good for the natives."
"Why are you like that?!"
"What? Sorry"
"No I shouldn't have snapped, but why are people so cynical?"
"Human nature I guess."
"I think that any visit would be from scientists and explorers, people who have a benevolent interest in humanity, but . . . I guess you are right, about human nature, do you think it will ever change?"
"I think so."
"Cool, perhaps I will see you then." as if on queue she yanked a vibrating cell phone out of her pocket. She spoke a few words into it. I couldn't pick out the language what ever it is it is very soft and flowing. She snapped the phone shut. "I need to go."
"You have to go? What do you mean you will see me then?"
"Yea, I hope to see you when human nature improves." She leaned forward, kissed me on the cheek and walked back into the tree line.
"Wait Eve?" I followed right after her, but oddly she was already gone.
I can explain it all away, but I really want to believe that was my brush with something spectacular . . .
I am a professional freelance writer who occasionally offers editing services. Unfortunately, I could not afford to undertake a project of this nature for the price that you are offering, but I do feel that both @cheapgamer and @goatead would be viable candidates. In this particular situation, you need someone who is better suited to help you develop your characters and storyline, and I am confident that both of these gentlemen could meet or exceed your expectations.

While I have a lot of writing experience (creative writing & professional job writing) I don't read much sci-fi so I don't think I'd be the person for the job. But I do plan to follow this one and perhaps comment on answers from time to time.
I can vouch for @goatead with his creativity and drive he would be a great choice or a great member for a creative group.
