Obviously London is packed with brilliant landmarks and even after living there for a number of years I'm still blown away by the history that pervades nearly every corner of the city. For the most densely packed history experience you cannot beat Westminster Abbey.
Honestly, the history of the place is just too hard to summarise, go to the website to read for hours:

Aside from the history, the architecture of the abbey is absolutely mind blowing, and just next door you have the Houses of Parliament on the banks of the Thames which is, in my opinion, the best building the city, better even than St Pauls Cathedral.
They're all close together so you can line them up and have a great day out walking from Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, along Downing St to Trafalgar Square then down The Strand or along the Thames to St Pauls, check it out here:
