If you lost your job, you can go to the unemployment office or use severance if you got a decent package.

If you have no income or no way of paying, try talking directly with your landlord. A lot of people are having this problem now, and it's not like many people are looking to move right now, so your landlord might be flexible and not threaten eviction.

If you need some work, try temp agencies. I've had some great experience with ClarityNY and GloCap in New York.

craigslist.org is a great place to look for freelance as well as employment under a company :) good luck!
