If you hear lots of sirens and helicopters nearby your house there could be many logical problems.
1. There is a law breaker being searched for.
2. They are searching for a missing person or have found that missing person.
3. It could be a crime scene of a burglary or a murder scene.
4. If there is water nearby there could be drowning or a capsised boat.
5. there could be a suicide that has already happened or one they are trying to stop.
Those are just five logical answers to the question. If you are looking for a local answer you could turn on your local news station or go to your local news staions website.

I can usually find what's going on... anywhere!
(hey... I used to have a childhood friend I would visit that lived in your neighborhood, but just a few blocks closer to Wilshire Blvd.)
In scanning the news this evening, the only thing I could find was a brush fire that started this afternoon around the 24000 block of Bell Canyon Road.
Now I know that's way far away from you... and they put it out rather quickly, but they could've called on all the LAFD stations and made a mountain out of a mole hill...?
You never know!

I know if I had a TV nearby, I would have known in minutes. I can't believe the local news folks aren't keeping a feed of breaking news going to the web. I can get more current information about the parking situation in the public parking garages in Santa Monica. http://parkingspacenow.smgov.net/
Anyone know if there is a web site broadcasting Police and Fire communications on-line?

I really couldn't say, but then again the government isn't exactly forth coming in anything they do. I have noticed a lot of activity here in Virginia aswell. I live in the Hampton Roads area, near Langley, NASA and a few military installations. Late at night you can see many helicopters with very little sound hovering back and forth. To me it would appear they're looking for something. Near by is the Thomas Jefferson Lab (CEBAF) where they test laser's along with a few unspoken researches aswell. You could ask officials what might be going on, but I doubt the truth is what you will hear. So it would appear the answer to this question might not be a simple one answer but few many comparted answers. I am happy that atleast someone seems to be concerned with our government. I hope you do find out what it is you need to know and hope it doesn't require an arm and a leg.

I was quite disappointed to learn that all the local 'live and breaking news' on-line was about two hours old when you posted. Checked Fox LA, KTLA, KCAL, etc. The nearest story they had in time and place was the tree that fell on PCH many hours earlier. I know if I had a TV nearby, I would have known in minutes. I can't believe the local news folks aren't keeping a feed of breaking news going to the web. I can get more current information about the parking situation in the public parking garages in Santa Monica. http://parkingspacenow.smgov.net/
