Los Angeles. That’s according to a new survey by Inrix, which provides traffic and navigation services and produces a biannual traffic scorecard.
But there’s good news — or was good news — even for Angelinos who dread their morning commute. Gridlock reached its low point in the second quarter of 2009, thanks to the recession.
Unfortunately, it’s started to rebound again.
Here’s the Inrix list of most congested cities:
1. Los Angeles
2. New York
3. Chicago
4. Washington
5. Dallas
6. Houston
7. San Francisco
8. Boston
9. Seattle
10. Philadelphia
I’ve lived in almost all of these cities, and my first reaction to this list was, duh.

Sorry you're having a rough time driving in LA... I know I was really nervous at first, but it wasn't quite as bad as I feared it would be after driving in Dallas.
Plus, down here in Texas, people just buy really big trucks. They hog the road and you just get out of their way!

Within the US, I would definitely say that LA has the worst traffic. I commute to Hollywood for work, and there are always accidents everywhere. People here are crazy, aggressive drivers, always honking at everyone and cutting them off. Top 10 Worst Traffic Cities in the United States For 2009:

After doing a quick net search (talking worldwide here), it seems Tokyo is at the top of the list for city with the worst traffic, LA being 2nd. And I thought we had horrible traffic here at Manila, Philippines (well, its still listed as number 12 so I guess that's still pretty bad T_T) Tokyo

I've driven in LA and in Dallas, and I have to say beyond any doubt whatsoever, Dallas sucks worse than LA. The people who laid out LA at least made a little sense. Dallas has some amazingly stupid layouts of roads and turns and stuff. It also doesn't help any that they are almost perpetually under construction! Sorry you're having a rough time driving in LA... I know I was really nervous at first, but it wasn't quite as bad as I feared it would be after driving in Dallas.

Here’s an honor no American city wants: the place with the worst traffic congestion. Is there such an award? Well, not quite, but close. The U.S. Department of Transportation today announced nine semi-finalists for a federal program that will pour a total of $1.1 billion into a traffic jam-fighting program.Transportation Secretary Mary Peters told a press conference this morning that something “different, innovative and daring” is needed to fight traffic. (Hmmm, how about putting the money into mass transit, Mary?) Here are the cities that made the cut:
» Atlanta
» Dallas
» Denver
» Minneapolis-St. Paul
» Miami
» New York City
» San Diego
» San Francisco
» Seattle

@keepontryin. Money, my friend, it's all about the dollars. But we do need the freeways. And a lot of it is about how many military installations we have on the island of Oahu. Plenty.

I seem to recall that 20 or 25 years ago Mexico CIty was on the Top 10 list for worst traffic in the world.
