"Local" Answers? Any chance Mahalo Answers can facilitate getting first-hand information for local/regional questions?

Is Mahalo Answers widely enough adopted to be useful for getting first-hand information for local/regional questions?  If not, when (if ever) do you think it will be?  Or, is there a better alternative?

If I have a question about something local, it's not helpful for me to have someone in (INSERT COUNTRY HERE) google my question and post the result.  Seriously, it would have been easier for me to do that myself rather than posting the question.

Would it be helpful to add some type of feature to foster these geographic communities?  Or is it just better to post "First-Hand Answers Only" in the question... and probably get no responses.

Again, this only applies to when I'm specifically looking for something local.  Otherwise I think the system is a great resource to get a variety of well-thought out answers from all around the world.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It works great for local, yet it's more of a local opinion, yet answers from real people's experiences are best, rather than searched for via a search engine. If I were to ask what is the best restaurant in a particular city I'm going to, there may be someone on here that knows about it. If there were a way to locally notify them, or allow the user to choose a box that says, "local notify" whenever their city is mentioned in a question, then more answers would come up.  You can also make it so that you only allow people who are local, and only locals will see this question, whereas everyone else would not be able to see it.  This would be a feature to run by the Mahalo Answers Team by providing feedback.  You can email feedback@mahalo.com

I think it would be good to somehow allow the user to upload a Google Map or just a map of some kind when an answer is local. If there were an easy way to embed a map as a feature, that would make things easier to some extent. I know not all users would do this, but some would. Lets say you ask, "What is the best pizza shop in (insert city)?" and you get 5 answers. Wouldn't it be nice to have a map of all 5 of them to see which is closest to you?

Mmmm... automatic location discovery would be tasty. As long as the results were accurate and reliable that would be pretty interesting.

i was looking for some driving directions for a rather obscure region of Canada last night, i did not considered mahalo as a resource for this because i felt the odds of someone from that region finding the question was next to nil.  Yahoo answers on the other hand allowed me to target a smaller group geographically, , i which the odds of someone with the answer finding the question was much higher, I got 2  answers that could be considered 'best' so far.

i also think that people are more engaged when question categories have geographical relevance.

I think that posting "First-Hand Answers Only" in your question should be sufficient. You may still get some Googled answers, but you can simply reply in answer comments that was not what you were looking for.

Besides, you may discover that the information you were looking for could be Googled. The person may find a site where locals are discussing the topic or they may find a first-hand blog post that answers it.
