Linda Lou Taylor has been married 23 times...wouldn't you get jaded after the first 15 or so?

It amazes me that two lesbian ladies who have lived together for thirty years can not get married while this person can get married over and over. Prostitution marriage is what I call it. I think that there should be a marriage 'three strikes and you're out' law.

That is a great point! It feels extremely wrong that one person can get married and divorced that many times - while other people in our community aren't even allowed to do it once. To get married 23 times seems ridiculous. Most people haven't had 23 partners, let alone spouses.

While I can relate with the point about gay marriage, a law that limits how many times you can marry is patently unconstitutional (in the United States). The right to marry is a fundamental right, which is why preventing gays from marrying is horrible and unconstitutional as well.

This is bizarre! How many times can you really fall in love? Or is this not love, or is it just the love of marriage? I'm getting jaded just thinking about it.

I'm already jaded about marriage and I've been married 0 times. It's what taking Family Law will do to you. Can you say PRENUP?!
I think that lady is crazy though. I don't see what can make someone marry so many times. Maybe she's a product of her time. She marries anyone she wants to sleep with?!

How would you feel about allowing the state to only issue civil union certificates, and leave marriage completely up to religious organizations? I realize that tax and other laws would have to be changed.

She's 68 now and hasn't been married in 12 years. So she would be a product of the 40's and 50's. She says she would like to get married again because she's lonely, but I'd say the odds get worse at her age.

I think religious organizations have co-opted the term marriage. They claim ownership over a term that's inherently social in nature. Marriage is a social and legal institution. Religion has mostly only been used to legitimize it as a way of justifying property rights over women. Marriage has always been about property and ownership. It's possibly one of the worldliest institutions I can think of. Love and marriage were completely independent of each other until now.
Using the term civil unions puts LGBT people in a "separate but equal situation". If gays, lesbians, etc are to be considered totally equal under the law then they should have marriage too or everybody should have civil unions.

Why would she get jaded? Did she keep marrying the same few people? King Solomon had 1000 wives and concubines, and he was a wise guy.

I would imagine (I'm a bachelor myself) that marrying gets easier after you do it a few times. You would probably know the drill, from first date to filing the divorce papers.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with her marrying 23 or more people of any gender, in any order, or in any combination. It's strictly her business, and good luck to her!

I don't know if King Solomon's 1000 wives is more hyperbole than anything else. While I don't question that he existed one can't deny the Bible's tendency to embellish.

While the bible often exaggerates, a large number of wives is not that uncommon among ancient and/or oriental kings and emperors. A Chinese Emperor had 10,000 wives, it is said. King Solomon didn't have the record number, just the best reputation for wisdom.
