Let's reach out for the Haiti Victims...
Aside from prayers, we could reach out by donating some of our Mahalo dollars to them. A small amount from each of us will be a big help. You can donate by giving a tip on this question. @Lon said he’ll be donating the tips we could gather to Red Cross.
This is our chance to help. You can also post a message or a prayer you can impart to our brothers and sisters at Haiti.

M$It doesn’t really matter if you donate a small amount… It’s the thought that counts. If you don’t have any M$ yet, you can donate here directly: http://american.redcross.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ntld_main&s_src=RSG000000000&s_subsrc=RCO_BigRedButton
Thank you for your kind thoughts. :)

M$I did not do my planned mahalo work tonight, because I been praying and channeling healing energy Haiti's way all night! .. Remember if you do not have alot of money Mahalo or other wise. Good Thoughts and Prayers Help! .. I wish I could offer more.. but I am in debt trying to earn my way out, and on a mission to save my home too.. Don't forget to spread information about other ways to donate around! http://www.goodsearch.com http://www.thenonprofits.com/
After seeing These pictures I almost cried. I stopped all other page management duties, and focused on collecting these pictures and collecting news.
Totally devastating.

M$Mith, your question about social networks' power led me to think about it (even more than I already was)! Like you, this disaster has hijacked a large part of my day. I've aleady repeated myself enough, so I'll only ask you - and everyone else, of course - for your reactions to the ideas that have been crystalizing in my head (and that I posted at your question - and mine).

I know how you feel… :( it breaks my heart too seeing those pictures that’s why I asked for @lon’s help if we could do this at Mahalo.
Thank you for your donation.

M$Lon, it looks like @jillbeth is not presently online, but over on my question (http://www.mahalo.com/answers/mahalo-answers-community/re-the-haiti-earthquake-is-there-a-place-for-the-mahalo-and-condundrumland-community-to-help-in-the-humanitarian-response-if-so-how ), she offered to donate her tips if that answer is selected. If you let me know that you'll include that $2.16 in the donation, I'll select her answer and she can send it to you (to donate to the IRC).
In the meantime, everyone, I would still like to know if anyone has some creative ways for Mahalo to utilize our unique strengths (community, answers, buzz team, search engine, ???) to respond to this and/or future disasters/crises/etc. Please respond here, on the link in the preceding paragraph, or I can start a new question.

M$Great to see the figure jump! Great job, Jason!
I hope that you'll visit Mith's or my questions and offer your ideas and feedback. I just have a feeling that Mahalo's unique set of strengths could make this an IMPORTANT SITE for responding to this and/or future disasters! PLEASE go look at my initial outlines for a "Crisis Response Center" and add YOUR brainpower!

Even before this recent natural disaster Haiti was in trouble.
The country of Haiti has had more than their share of problems. I'm glad we are putting together this little care package to give to this impoverished nation and the victims of this unfortunate earthquake. It will be years before Haiti returns to anything close to normal and my prayers will be with those who survived and those who have lost loved ones.
With tragedy will come opportunity for greatness.
Thank you everyone for being a part of this and giving some of your hard earned cash. :)

M$The majority of Haitians have it hard enough with just day to day struggles.
I am no stranger to living in earthquake territory, and I must say after I saw the pictures and read the articles... I cried.
Thank you Lon and Angel for doing this and forwarding the money to Red Cross!

M$Excellent, Steve, thanks! In fact, that first link has links to some sites that are doing something very similar (especially, Wikipedia) to what I was trying to formulate. However, I THINK MAHALO COULD BE EVEN MORE VALUABLE/IMPORTANT, with the set of strengths we have. I'd love your feedback, steve!
Thanks for putting forward a great way to help the victims. I am really happy on donating a small amount of M$6 which I think is much negligible compared with the others. :)
However, I just saw the meaning of what a Community is by looking at the amount of M$ that have been donated.
I remember a small nursery rhyme which my grandma used to tell me.
"Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the pleasant land."
So come on everybody ... even a small donation would be appreciated. No matter what, the though for helping is what is needed.

M$"It sure made a difference to that one!"
I love this one !
The Starfish Story
Once a man was walking along a beach. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surf's edge and and the beach. Back and forth this person went. As the man approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide.
The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task. There were far too many starfish. Many of them were sure to perish. As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf.
As he came up to the person he said, "You must be crazy. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish. You can't possibly make a difference." The person looked at the man. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean. He turned back to the man and said, "It sure made a difference to that one!"
I found something you may like for additional donations.

This is great thing you all are doing. My only recommendation to those wishing to donate more is to consider other organizations, not just the Red Cross. Though they are the most well known, there are several effective organizations doing everything they can to bring food, water and medical supplies into the devastated region.
A full list of these organizations can be found through our page on HuffPost Impact: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/haiti-earthquake-relief-h_n_421014.html
Bill Clinton just appeared on CNN and said to give anything you can through his foundation: http://clintonfoundation.org/haitiearthquake/ "We will use that money," he said.
I'm Mahalo's editorial director, @wy. I don't have to wait for a cashout or reach a minimum payout. That's why the Mahalo Dollars will go to me, so that I will then immediately take the funds and donate them.
Same here. I entered M$7 and the results came as M$0.05 . :(
So am tipping you the rest :)
@eortiz , you could tip the money you want to donate by tipping through the link which can be found on the bottom of @lon 's answer.
Hey, I accidentally donated a nickel lol. so I put what I wanted to give as a tip to you...I am sorry!
Sooooo, with how-now-plastic-cow and robbj (how about you, mike?) sending side-tips to Lon - and the tip from jillbeth and my related question - that means our total is EVEN HIGHER than that reflected on the main tote board!!!
And, jonathan, you are absolutely right! My family will be donating US$ to a couple of different organizations, too.
And, HuffPost is doing something similar to the idea I've been formulating for Mahalo's possible "Crisis Response Center" (see my answer below for links to Mith's and my questions). However, I STILL think that we could/would/should do even better with our unique set of strengths. I am seeking your ideas/feedback/brainpower to help Mahalo and Mahaloans be the best resource we can be!!!
(I put this as comment in Ion’s answer and as an answer of mine so that more ppls can see it.)
I wonder whether there is a better way. Maybe we can refine it in the future.
The current method:
We tip a question, then Ion won the best answer, then he cashes out, then he donates to Red Cross.
In the end, Ion is taxed (is it 30% or higher ?) for the donation collection.
Problems:
1. Does Ion have to wait until the cashout date ? If it is, then it will be too slow, not efficient.
2. Ion is taxed. If Ion bears it, this is not fair for Ion. If he deducts the amount from the donation, the tax could have been used for the relief. In either way, it’s not optimal. I hope the tax can be claimed back. The amount can be substantial when the donation is big.
Suggestions:
1. Special non-taxable account by trusted charity organizations in Mahalo. Maybe they can put at their websites too.
2. Special cashout facilities for charity cause
Note:
I think this is a good opportunity for casual users to put the M$ to good use.
After all, it may take quite a long time to reach the 150 min payout limit.
It is good for users who wishes to abandon Mahalo because of the min payout limit too.
It is either donate it for a good cause or leave it here for Mahalo investors. :-)
Lon, I too only gave $0.05 by mistake. I'm sending you a tip for $29.64 (all I have, minus a dollar) to help out. :)
Edit: ok so I couldn't do 29.64, so I just did $30.
I also meant to add $5.00 but it came out 0.05?
I donated everything I had on M$ which it was not much, like M$10 but It went only M$0.05, I am doing it with my iphone, can I vote interesting back again to fix this and submit the rest??
