Generally, the focus of the law is to set the individual completely whole, as if the injury did not occur in the first place. In cases of partial disability, the aim of the law is to compensate financially the value of the loss of that specific disability. Value is generally based on approximate earning potential of the individual (which is why a professional white male in mid 30s to early 40s is considered the very best plaintiff for injury value purposes).
