What happens when you stop making payments on a leased car but you keep the car without returning it?

A friend of mine, leased a car and could not make the monthly payments. He's ignored letters and phone calls from the lender, and has not returned the car. What are the consequences for such actions?

The first option is to send a collection agency to get the money owed to them. The dealer that you leased the car from can also repossess it depending on the exact language in the leasing agreement. This is usually accomplished by towing the car.
