Telephone poles are used for advertisement all the time (yard sale .fairs, political, etc.) Is this legal, do need a permit or permission?

With no help from media and newspapers I would like to get posters made for the people to get the correct picture of what is happening. Just worried about legal and crime status of using the poles.

It is illegal to post signs on telephone polls. Outdoor signage in the US is has some federal and state laws and more restrictive local laws. Most businesses pay a permit or licensing fee for commercial signs and banners.

Some communities regularly remove unauthorized signs others let them be unless someone complains. Most cities have a fine established. Few enforce it. With revenues shrinking, we may see more enforcement as local communities look at all avenues to increase revenues.

You have the freedom to post non-commercial signs on your personal property within the guidelines of your community ordinances. Safety is a consideration for size, placement and type of sign. Utilities poles are usually prohobitied for sign posting, but often abused.

Here is a study from the City of Los Angeles which will give you an idea of the levels of government involvement.

Thank you this is very helpful. I don't need to get beaten down by the police again. Twice too many for me with what I have on them all.

This is very difficult to answer without knowing what state you live in, as I always like to double check with the state for such questions.

I believe in general it is OK to post for temporary events. IE tag sales, garage sales, free kittens . . .

I have never seen adds for businesses done this way in Connecticut and I suspect this may be frowned upon. I would ask your town hall or call the non-emergency police number for your area if you would like verification.

It is not advertising, but trying to get peoples eyes open with proof of our counties and overwhelming government cover-ups, etc.

I appreciate the irony of questioning the government using government property as a starting point, but the same general answer applies.

I would double check with the local government. I would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation . . .

I suspect it would not be allowed because if people could put pro-or anti- political stances on them I would suspect that our telephone polls would be covered tip to toe in arguments about single payer health care debate alone ^_^

I don't think that the government will worry about the legal and crime status of posting on telephone poles.

Ever since 9/11, the government is being extremely careful about what we are saying. Due to the Patriot Act, did you know that every 10th phone call made, the government is listening onto us? They are trying to find a keyword that will link to possible signs of terrorism. They tap into your email, your phone, your Facebook, etc. What's next? They bug our homes? After 9/11, we lost our freedom of privacy.

If you try to speak out of the government, they will silence you. Not in public, but they'll find a way. Like dig up an old parking ticket or even create a law that bans posting articles telephone poles in your town! No matter what, they will get you to stop talking.

I recommend instead of posting posters around town, share your opinions on the World Wide Web. Not only will your influence various kinds of people, but if you get in trouble for speaking against the government, others all around the world will know your opinion. And only then, will your opinions can never be silenced.

They wished they could retrieve your computer, but they can't. They would absolutely love to take your computer and go through all your files and find all kinds on dirt on you. Thankfully, our country has a judicial system that doesn't allow that. There must be evidence, they need hard, cold proof to get a warrant for your computer. So what do they do? They monitor your communications to get the evidence. They try to prevent it from spreading. So, watch out for what you say and they won't have any reason to take your computer.
