Its only illegal to sell and profit from "Bootleg Recordings" of "live music performances."

Most artists typically do little effort to pursue legal action about bootleg recordings, viewing such "rarities trading" as harmless provided that it is not being done for profit. Usually these live recordings are done by the illicitly by the artist's most loyal hardcore fans.

If your a Taper and would like to share your favorite band's music live recording to the world. The potential of you getting sued is slim.

BUT if you intend to profit from it by placing ads on it online. The potential liability of you getting sued are highly likely. Since they wont treat you simply as a fan, but a crooked businessman.

Typically it is illegal to record a live music performance. I would think it would be REALLY illegal to upload it, put it out for the public to listen to, and run ads against it.

The performer would NOT be benefiting from their performance in this case and does not have any control of their product... hence... illegal.
