Does the law guarantee a citizen a speedy trial? If so define what speedy means.

If a person can not afford bond, how long do they remain imprisoned before trial? Is an one year wait period considered speedy?

SCOPE: Criminal cases where the defendant is imprisoned and excluding civil cases.

Guarantee? No there are no guarantees; however, if it takes too long some cases have been thrown out.

Speedy simply means that it is to put as little burden on the rest of your life as possible. It's easier to think about a civil suit. If your being sued by a an unhappy customer for more than your business is worth. Your entire business could go under if the trial isn't executed quickly. Your entire life for that matter. Anytime you are under some kind of court proceeding the rest of your life goes on hold.

I think it's indefinitely. Kevin Mitnick was held with out bond for 4 and half years.
Asker's Rating:
• Eventually, the pendulum will swing the other way and a return to a strict intrepretation of the constitution will be avocated.

I seems like your suggest that the Constitution is being broadly intrepreted and that the guarantee of a speedy trial is not being upheld. Did I correctly comprehend your statement?

Yes It is. But that's the problem and feature of the constitution. It lives and breathes and changes with the times. I hope in this case things get better.
