Late in 2009, "cloud technology" was predicted to be the top technology area in IT. Is it?
October 21, 2009 - "The analyst firm Gartner has predicted that Cloud Computing will be the top most technology area IT should concentrate in the year 2010." So how is it coming along? Personally, even though I don't know much about it, I think I'm more traditional when it comes to Information Technology. Even though I have tons of stuff on the Internet like permanent logins, stashed credit cards with certain companies, my banking info, even with all of that, "cloud" was the one where I thought, "Too much information."
Maybe I just don't get it - does it mean that every piece of my personal data now on the World Wide Web will be centralized? Or is it more like data storage? I guess I need to read more about it. But I'd like first-hand experiences. Anyone using it and loving it? Anyone tried it and hated it? I'd love to know.

I do believe that cloud computing has become an emerging technology, and it is ranking quite high, although am not sure if it outranks some of the other 2010 areas in the slide. Cloud computing can be seen in a variety of ways, but primarily cloud storage is what is the main thing cloud computing is affiliated with. Such examples are JoliCloud, a lightweight Ubuntu based operating system that runs entirely on the "cloud", with apps, docs, and social networking all built in. DropBox also runs on the cloud notion that all files are uploaded to the cloud and easily accessible anywhere.
