Last night I had a dream that I was in prison for drinking and not being able to prove I was 21, why?

I watched a very sad movie called Marry and Max before i went to bed. Then later that night I had a bit of a nightmare where I was arrested for drinking by a lake with no ID. Then once i got to PRISON, not jail, they told me I had no records on file so they could not tell me when i got out. Also I somehow snuck my cell phone into the cell, but no calls would go through even though I had service.

The movie was very upsetting but it was not about jail, and had only loose mentions of alcohol. So this leaves me wondering...

Was this because of the movie? or just because i think about jail too much?

This movie is on netflix by the way. I highly suggest watching it, I was almost brought to tears and stories usually don't get to me.

Dreams come in service of your health (mind, body, spirit). and wholeness.. A nightmare is a dream which comes in a form that makes sure you remember when you awaken

The movie must have stirred something up. .

Start making a list of associations of the various elements in the dream. Pay close attention to the part of the dream which had the highest emotion. Remember that there are many levels to the meaning of a dream, positive and negative. Also, before you go to sleep, ask yourself to give you another dream clarifying the nightmare. It works..

- drinking: party, good times, making merry (Bacchus)
- lake (water) rebirth, life-giving, the unconscious
- jail: isolation, something holding you back

thanks for the great answer!

So I am interested in "asking" myself to clear up the dream but how do i do this? do i simply think about the dream before I go to bed?

The movie might have had a lot to do about what you dreamed. It usually does, but it may be that you have a lot on your mind already about the fear of drinking and getting in trouble or drinking and driving. You may not even be a drinker, but it may be crossing your mind.

If you are at young age, you might take this serious. I really would have to know more about you. This is just in my own opinion in case you are at a young age and maybe getting ready to get in trouble by doing this.

I hope I am wrong, but this is just my opinion. I am not judging anyone.

I am legally allowed to drink and in the dream i didn't feel like i was breaking the law. I bought the beer with my ID for people that i was with. then lost it.

I don't drink much except some beer from time to time. Oh and Irish coffee when its offered to me. So i was thinking it had more to do with frustrations and jail than the actual crime, it seems like that was a very small part of the dream. Once it happened it didn't re occur that alcohol was the reason i was in jail, just the fact that i did not know when i would be able to leave.

stress can cause people to have vivid dreams. If the dream is metaphoric, the metaphors are specific to you - perhaps you feel trapped in some aspect of your life (jail) or misunderstood
