Best virus protection for a mini?

My new Dell mini came with a 30 day trial version of McCrappy, and I want to uninstall it, but not sure what to put in its place. The memory is limited, as no upgrades were offered. Are there any companies offering a slim version of AV software?

Best Virus Protection is with real-time scanning and always up-to-date. Any freeware anti-virus will do. Avast, AVG and Antivir is pretty much good enough. I'd recommend Avast though. Simple and hassle free. Even the registration. Or if you wanna try a new product from a reputable company; try IObit Security 360 1.10.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Works really well, very light weight and does not use alot of resources. Avg is also a good choice.

The best, most light weight virus protection is to run Linux.

If lightweight wasn't a requirement I'd have suggested another non-M$oft OS. :)

A system that is vulnerable doesn't need a virus written for it in order to be compromised. But where there is no widely exploited vulnerability, there is a much more secure solution in use by far.

The best virust protection is the :
#1 BitDefender Antivirus.
#2 Kaspersky
#3 Webroot Antivirus with SpySweeper
#4 ESET Nod32
#5 F-Secure Anti-Virus

Images #1 -5 of the antivirus.

Going to reply to the last one, but wish I could amend the question. (hint hint there..lol)

So a normal virus program is ok for a mini? Was thinking it would take up too much memory. I do have another license for Kapersky, which I love for the laptop and desktop. I'm a worrywart, can't help it.

If prevention is a cure I recommend Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html and Spybot S&D (with TeaTimer) http://www.safer-networking.org/ and run Firefox with NoScript (http://noscript.net) and a hardware firewall (aka router).

Test your network security and other holes in your setup at http://grc.com.

For AV software, AVGFree 9+ is the answer. All my suggestions require manual updates (hence free) but I've been using this combo for many, many years and have never had a successful attack on my system (even when clicking knowingly bad/infected links/objects).

Oh and in response to "hassle free registration", AVGFree doesn't even have registration. :)

Personally, I can recommend Avira Antivir. It scans and updates fast and cleans/repairs your infected files fast, too! That's what I've been using for months now and I have no complaints about it. By the way, you can download and try it free at http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html . Just try the ones being recommended to you one at a time (don't run more than one antivirus simultaneously) and see the difference or see what's best for you. Or you can always trust the licensed ones. Your small amount of money can guarantee you the best protection you need.

From my own personal experience, AVG free has not let me down.

I've set up one PC with Windows 7 and I'm running the new MS Security Essentials on it. Its been running for about 2 weeks with no issues.
