Land route from London to South East Asia?
It's just after midnight here in Australia and an email has popped in my Inbox offering the potential for a job in the UK for 6 months. Assuming the job works out, at it's conclusion I'm thinking of taking a road-trip through Europe. That's lead me to wonder if it's possible to get beyond Europe, so I'm curious as to how far it's possible to get heading from London to South East Asia.
Even in my sleepy state I know it's an absurd idea but I'll give it a shot if it's possible. So fine Maholers can you get me from London to Thailand or one of it's neighbours? Is there precedent for doing this in recent times? Is it possible today? 4WD or dirt-bike? Your thoughts please

I have included a map of a land route from London to India. As far as I can determine, a train route from London to Southern Asia is a current project but won't be possible until the Calcutta-Dhaka trains resume
after 40 years. The project would bridge the gap in the rails between Bam and
Zahedan in southeast Iran but it has been "under construction" for decades. A train trip from London to Southern Asia could take 2- 3-weeks, possibily longer by car.
Please keep in mind that traveling through some of these countries could be dangerous. I strongly suggest contacting a travel agent or your local embassy for potential travel restrictions.

Thanks for your input. I've found http://www.oz-bus.com/ who do a backpackers trip between London and Sydney that is primarily land-based.
