Why do faucets start flowing slowly and how can you eliminate the problem?

Our kitchen faucet has been replaced three times in the six years we've owned our current home. All of our other faucets have been fine all along, but our kitchen faucets inevitably start flowing slowly and eventually stop altogether. Why might this be happening? Is there anything we can do to prevent it? (It just seems odd that it's ONLY the kitchen faucet!)

I actually cheated and asked my father in law who is a plumber and was online on Yahoo...

This is what he said...

"If it has been replaced and the same condition occurs then there is only two things it could be, (1) the stops under the sink need to be replaced, (2) there is sediment gathering in the aerator of the faucet... to eliminate the second install a sediment filter where the main water come into the building, to eliminate the first, replace the angle stops under the sink. They may not be working properly and could be defective, due to weakened seats that expand once the angle stop is turned on again after replacement of the faucet."

Hope that helps. I was thinking hard water build up but that wouldn't just affect one faucet so I asked an expert. :)

For more on replacing angle stops:

This is what an "angle stop" looks like...

For more on replacing the Aerator he mentions in option 2:

It's this part on your faucet, You could also try just cleaning it.

To install the filter hes talking about you may want to call a plumber.

I have this problem in my house too. The faucets become clogged by salts and other sediments in the watter. All you have to do is to Unscrew the aerator dump out any thing in it then rescrew. This video show you how to replace the aerator.
