Sometimes I think the preferences are influenced by the parents. Even a non-speaking child will go to the object that gets the best positive reinforcement from a parent.

I think it is because teddy bears are the classic stuffed animal for kids. I got my teddy bear when I was a baby (there is a picture of us when we were the same size). Now, I love that teddy bear because I have had it for so long. Also, companies make lots of teddy bears so there is a large variety so everyone can find one to suit their personality.

My kids (nor I when I was a kid) have no fondness for teddy bears. Last on the list when compared to kittens, puppy, dog, wolf, fish, frog, and zebra. Sometimes I think the preferences are influenced by the parents. Even a non-speaking child will go to the object that gets the best positive reinforcement from a parent.
