Just how hot is Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Chilli Pepper)?

I was looking up the hottest naturally grown peppers in the world and stumbled across this. I might be wrong, but I believe it comes from India, or at least is used in India. It seems that according to the Scoville Rating it is about twice as hot as a Red Savina Habanero. I can't even imagine that.

Have you ever tasted this pepper? What is it used in? Has anyone ever became ill or sick from eating this, like is it dangerous?

The “bhut jolokia” or “ghost chili pepper’’ was officially recorded by the Guinness book of records, as the spiciest chili in the world.

The “bhut jolokia” (ghost chili pepper) is so hot that it can be used as a weapon. The spiciness of a pepper is measured by checking the amount of capsaicin that the pepper has on a Scovilles scale. The capsaicin is a chemical in chilli peppers that gives them flavor, while the scovilles scale is used to measure the spicy heat of any spice.

This pepper has over 1,001,304 Scoville units. In comparison to the Red Savina Habenero which has 580,000 Scovilles or the with scovilles counts between 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units.

The Indian farmers commented that if a person ingest a raw “bhut jolokia” (ghost chili pepper), that person is bound to suffer stomach problems and also compared the pain of eating it to dying.
