Just found people on my wifi, checked router and security turned off. Why? Could this have happened when I flashed my router? yikes.

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Most of the wifi routers will default to the factory settings after firmware upgrade. this is mainly due to additional features that are included in the new firmware.

Please always read the "how to" before upgrading the firmware and also take a back up of the working configuration which you can restore after a successful upgrade. Sometimes, you may have to reconfigure because the original configuration may not be compatible with the new firmware.

Here is a warning I have on my linksys router upgrade screen.

"Note: When you upgrade the Router's firmware, you may lose its configuration settings, so make sure you write down the Router settings before you upgrade its firmware."

Immediately after the successful upgrade, change the default userid/password and configure security settings using "WPA2 personal" with AES encryption and also enable MAC accesslist after adding all your wifi devices.

below is a "How to" for enabling security.

Yes they sometimes reset to a open AP after you flash it.
Always remember to:
1. Turn on Encryption WPA1 or 2
2. Change Default login Password
3. Shut off UPnP

If you just flashed the firmware on your router, chances are that the config was dumped when you overwrote the flash.
