RED
1. If the terminals on the batteries have any corrosion, you will need to use the wire brush and clean them off.
2. Start by clamping the positive jumper cable red clamp to the positive red terminal on the dead battery.
3. Connect the other positive red clamp to the positive red terminal onto the charged car battery.
* Make sure your remaining two clamps are not touching one another or you may short out the circuit or electrocute yourself.
4. Clamp the negative black clamp to the negative black terminal on the charged car battery.
5. Now attach the other negative clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the dead car's frame. This will provide the ground to the circuit and reduces the risk of explosion.

1) Connect the positive cable to the positive post of the dead battery.

2) Connect the positive cable to the positive post of the good battery.

3) Connect the negative cable to the negative post of the good battery.

4) Connect the negative cable to the engine block or some other ground metal away from the battery. You generally want to avoid placing the cable onto the negative post of the battery in order to avoid sparks or explosion.

I would just add that when you are disconnecting the cables, do so in the reverse order in which you connected everything.
In other words, the last item you connected, should be the first item you disconnect.  The first item you connected, should be the last item disconnected.  Otherwise, you run the risk of sparking or injuring yourself.
