Astronomers have used the comet record — including 2001 RX14 (Linear) at left, captured in 2002 by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey — to model a new route for incoming comets that sneaks past Jupiter's gravity.
The pathway might even be the dominant one that delivers Oort Could comets on an Earth-bound trajectory, say the authors of a new study in Science this week — but if that's true, comets only rarely cause extinctions on Earth.

M$'Gatesgate' keeps festering on, while Obama tries to smother the issue with the 'beer summit'. Republicans try to increase the pressure on this non-issue by questioning the choice of beer. How interesting...

A sad 'ongoing' is the ETA car bombing at Mallorca. This is the second bombing this week, showing the ETA is still strong, and capable of causing trouble.

Of course there was news on Schumi and Massa at the Formula 1, as Shumi's re-appearance might be the saviour of this troubled high-speed racing sport. Massa is doing better and better, Schumacher is training his neck muscles, F1 ticket sales soar.

The one news item I didn't expect was the Dow reaching its highest point of 2009, while any analyst is predicting that the worst is yet to come. Unbridled enthousiasm, or are analysts too pessimistic? 'The stock market is always right' they say. We'll see!
Dow on the up
So, even though I don't know whether the Dow will keep looking upward, I nominate that event as 'News of the Day'.

I feel a lot of people were looking forward to getting paid to get rid of there old cars. Seems like as soon as something good starts to happen the MAN wants to take it away.

MS woman in UK wins right-to-die fight
Ms Debbie Purdy from Bradford, UK, suffered from severe Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since 1995. She is not able to walk and she will not be able to move her upper body gradually. Ms Purdy is contemplating to travel to Dignitas organisation in Switzerland to end her life by having a lethal dose of barbiturates prescribed by doctors there.
Her question is whether her husband, Cuban violinist Omar Puente, would be prosecuted if he is helping her to travel abroad to end her life?
Under the current law in UK, Mr. Puente may face 14 years in prison if he has been prosecuted for assisting Ms Purdy’s death.
The law of assisted suicide has been clarified in UK today because all five Law Lords has taken a more compassionate stand and ruled that the Director of Public Prosecutions must specify when a person might face prosecution.
What will happen if Ms Purdy is from the United States? Will Mr. Puente be prosecuted here if he is attempting to help her to end her life?
A quote from Ms Debbie Purdy "I want to live my life to the full but I don't want to suffer unnecessarily at the end of my life.
