I had a friend that worked as a Karaoke DJ. He told me he what lead him into that kind of job.
1. Love of music
2. Knowledge of music
3. Ability to interact with others
4. Ability to sing
5. Basic understanding of whats hot and whats not
6. Never assume anything (You may be heading for a kids party but the music may be anything but kids music)
7. Be prepared for anything (sometimes the unexpected happens)
I went with him a number of times for his shows. He lived by those principles listed above. It is also good advice for others to be aware of when working with that kind of work.
